Visiting the ocean is a favorite getaway for me, and I never feel quite as relaxed as I do with sand between my toes and the sound of waves nearby. Maui and Kauai are my favorite islands to visit, although I did enjoy visiting the Big Island the year before the volcano erupted and erased part of the landscape where I hiked with friends. In particular, Maui has captured my heart with visits during whale season — watching the humpback whales breaching, spinner dolphins doing acrobatic displays, and unbeatable snorkeling make it #1 on my list!
